WideBand Corporation, headquartered in Gallatin, Missouri, announced today the initiation of a patent licensing program to collect royalties from manufacturers of Gigabit Ethernet equipment that employ technologies invented and developed at WideBand Corporation.
Originally, Ethernet, the world’s most popular networking technology, was plagued by a serious performance problem – data collisions. Data collisions occur when computers on a computer network attempt to transmit data at the same time. Engineers at WideBand Corporation developed a unique method of eliminating data collisions in local area networks. The technique, called Buffered Packet Synchronization, detects a collision about to occur, buffering one of the transmissions until the channel is available. “This method is 100 percent effective in eliminating data collisions on the local area network,” says Dr. Roger Billings, President of WideBand Corporation. “This is important for high performance applications like video over the LAN and IP telephone, which cannot tolerate data collisions.”
WideBand Corporation has acquired three U.S. patents regarding various aspects of Buffered Packet Synchronization (BPS) and has also applied for international patent coverage. The Company plans to contact infringing companies regarding licensing arrangements.
In the marketplace, some products utilizing this technology are referred to as “buffered repeaters” or “buffered distributors”. Numerous companies are taking advantage of the BPS technology to improve the performance of their Gigabit Ethernet networks. According to Billings, “It really doesn’t make sense to allow collisions on computer networks operating at Gigabit speed – or, for that matter, at any other speed.”
The patents on Buffered Packet Synchronization are not the only intellectual property interests of the Company. Others include Gold Key Security, Dual-Network Delivery, and Parallel Packeting.
WideBand Corporation is the manufacturer of high-performance networking equipment. Its stock is traded on the Over The Counter market under the symbol ZWBC.
