November 14, 2002, Gallatin, MO — WideBand Corporation announced today that two of its high performance networking products will be competing next week at COMDEX 2002 in the PC Magazine “Best of Show Competition” (Exhibit #11168).
The first product is its new Managed 8+8 Gigabit Ethernet Switch. Eight of the ports come pre-loaded for connection to the network over standard copper cables. WideBand Gigabit Ethernet products have been distinguished by their ability to operate over existing cabling, therefore eliminating the need to rewire before moving to Gigabit speeds, as is required with other products. The switch also includes 8 ports for fiber optic connection to the network. The fiber modules can support runs of up to 40 kilometers and are used by customers to connect distant buildings or campuses.
The second product is the two terabyte Teran Server, featuring the fsix operating system. This high-performance device employs dual Xeon processors and up to 12 Gigabyte of RAM disk, which greatly enhances performance in SQL applications. It is connected to the network by a pair of WideBand Gigabit Ethernet adapters, each utilizing PCI-X connectivity for a burst rate of up to 8 Gigabit/second.
Also built in is RAID 5, which automatically backs up every transaction. If any of the hard drives in the server should fail for any reason, the server continues to operate without losing a single byte of data. An alarm alerts the operator to replace the faulty drive, which is accomplished via the front panel. After the replacement drive has been installed, the Teran Server automatically restores the backup capability in preparation for any future possible disk failures.
According to Corporate President, Dr. Roger Billings, the launch of these new products constitutes a significant event for the publicly traded company. “I expect these new products to greatly energize sales over the next few months, especially in the education, Corporate 1000, and government sectors. These products give WideBand Corporation a real competitive edge in the marketplace.”
