24 August 2005, Gallatin, Missouri – WideBand is becoming increasingly popular among computer graphics editing companies. These organizations require huge amounts of processing power and network bandwidth to create special effects for feature films, television programming and commercials as well as animations and diagrams for visualization and design. WideBand networks and fs[ix] Servers have long been used by many of these companies to move and store files faster. Now more and more industry members are hailing WideBand solutions as an important part of their technology plan.
“Being able to use WideBand’s switches to manage network priority has been critical for us,” says industry member David Ellzey, founder of Red Gypsy Animation. “It allows our compositing workstations to run at full utilization, no matter what else is happening on the network. We get a lot of compliments from our clients during over-the-shoulder sessions on how fast our network runs now.”
This month, WideBand exhibited at the industry’s premier event in Los Angeles, California. The show, called SIGGRAPH, is attended by over 29,000 computer graphic artists, research scientists, developers and academics from 81 countries. In addition to over 400 conference sessions, the event featured a keynote by George Lucas, the creator of Star Wars.
WideBand announced two new fs[ix] Servers including a 10 Terabyte model that fits in a 4U rack space. WideBand also announced three new fs[ix] “Super” Desktop Computers including a 4-processor 64-bit system with support for up to 64 gigabytes of memory. The new products as well as WideBand’s Professional Series network equipment were very well received at the show.
