WideBand Corporation, a long time manufacturer of proprietary gigabit networking products, announced today its entrance into the standard Gigabit Ethernet market with its Enhanced Gigabit Ethernet product line.
The new products are compatible with other brands of Gigabit Ethernet, but have the advantage of working over existing Category 5 cable even at the full 100 meter distance.
Gigabit Ethernet is a new standard in computer networking that gives a substantial improvement in speed to computer networks. However, to make networks operate error-free at the prescribed 100 meter distances, the IEEE Gigabit Ethernet Workgroup recommended that Category 5 cable be upgraded to an “improved” cable, better suited for the high data rate. Although these improved cables themselves are not expensive, they can be expensive to install. This cost has been one of the major reasons why Gigabit Ethernet technology has been slow to catch on. In recent tests, WideBand’s Enhanced Gigabit Ethernet products were evaluated on over 100 different brands of Category 5 cable, representing the vast majority of the U.S. installed base. WideBand’s products passed on all of the cables, even at the full 100 meter cable length. According to Jon Thomas, Director of Marketing at WideBand Corporation, “WideBand’s new Enhanced Ethernet products provide a way for network users to upgrade to Gigabit Ethernet without the expense of rewiring. We believe these new products could have a major impact on the deployment of Gigabit Ethernet.”
WideBand Corporation markets its Enhanced Gigabit Ethernet products through a network of 100 independent dealers and resellers. WideBand Corporation is the manufacturer of high-performance networking equipment. Its stock is traded on the Over The Counter market under the symbol ZWBC.
